02:53 Min

In Parliament on Monday (Mar 7), NMP Tan Yia Swam issued a call to fellow parents not to pursue a “perfect checklist” for their children. She said children should be allowed to make their own decisions, face the consequences of their actions and learn to shrug off failure. Dr Tan noted that there have been many positive changes in formal education with more structured learning, better communication with parents and greater focus on social and emotional learning. However, she said the challenge is to truly teach and instil emotional wellness and resilience in the real world.
