Introduce a "rent-to-buy" model for rental flats to give residents the option to buy the same unit after renting it for a certain number of years, said MP Louis Chua. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Mar 8), he suggested allocating a portion of new HDB flats for this model, instead of limiting rental flats to one- or two-room flats. He said such a model could "concurrently" conquer the stigma against residents living in rental flats and reduce the financial burden of home ownership for the next generation of Singaporeans.
