Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 5: Tan Kiat How on transforming the built environment sector
Transformation plans in the built environment sector have to be accelerated in light of lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic and rapid changes in the operating environment, said Minister of State for National Development Tan Kiat How in Parliament on Tuesday (Mar 8). To help companies, two schemes are being extended - one to support productivity innovation and the other to help firms attract young talent. Singapore also needs to change the way it maintains its buildings through facilities management, said Mr Tan, amid the “twin pressures of ageing buildings and rising manpower costs”. He announced a new S$30 million grant to co-fund up to 70 per cent of initial capital investment and retrofitting costs for integrated and aggregated facilities management.
