Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 6: Gerald Giam on adult disability care
Many residents with severe disabilities require care provided by adult disability care facilities, such as day activity centres and adult disability homes, said MP Gerald Giam. Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 9), he wanted to know what the utilisation rates are for each of these facilities, as well as their staff-client ratio. He also wanted to know how many individuals are on the waiting list for the centres. He urged the Ministry of Social and Family Development to enhance its funding and support for adult disability care facilities and bring them at least on par with that of special education schools. More funds should go into hiring and retaining good staff, he said.
