Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 6: Louis Ng on supporting social workers and Family Service Centres
"Just tell everyone we are just very tired and frustrated". This is the message from social workers relayed to the House by MP Louis Ng, as he called for stronger support for social workers and Family Service Centres (FSCs). Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 9), Mr Ng said many passionate social workers struggle with heavy caseloads and are burnt out, while FSCs are handling more cases which are getting more complex. Mr Ng urged the Government to focus on what more it can do for social workers by improving its existing programmes and launching new initiatives. At the same time, help FSCs implement these programmes. Use the grants provided to "help social workers help the most vulnerable in our society", he said.
