Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 6: Tan Yia Swam on Third Party Administrators

05:27 Min

In Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 9), NMP Tan Yia Swam raised concerns that private clinics may be "held hostage" by the "unilateral pressures" of larger and financially stronger Third Party Administrators (TPAs). TPAs provide intermediary services, such as managing employer medical benefits for many companies, and some doctors accept lower consultation fees to be on TPA panels to access their larger patient base. She highlighted that TPAs may be the main source of income for many private clinics and called on the Government to review how TPAs and employee benefit plans are administered.
