Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 2: Louis Ng on support for refugees
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees needs funds to carry out its work. There are countries which have far lower per capita GDP that rank ahead of Singapore in contributions. MP Louis Ng, who highlighted this in Parliament on Monday (Feb 27), urged the Government to increase its contributions. Turning to the plight of refugees, he stressed the importance of education as an "equaliser". He asked if the Government can extend scholarships to a limited number of refugee children.
