Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 2: Sylvia Lim on Singapore-Malaysia ties

03:08 Min

The recent visit to Singapore by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim “marks a new chapter in relations”, where both sides can perhaps continue to put down some of their historical baggage, said MP Sylvia Lim in Parliament on Monday (Feb 27). She asked how the Government intends to further consolidate and build on the Singapore-Malaysia relationship and develop new areas for mutually beneficial cooperation at official and unofficial levels. Are there any timelines for proposed projects and what are the communication channels to prevent the escalation of differences, she asked. Ms Lim said Malaysia is Singapore’s closest neighbour and the bilateral relationship must be managed effectively in an increasingly contested and uncertain world.
