Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 3: Baey Yam Keng on full subject-based banding and review of A-Level curriculum

03:59 Min

Subject-based banding allows students to learn at a pace and level according to their academic abilities in specific subjects and nurture the joy of learning, said Senior Parliamentary Secretary Baey Yam Keng. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Feb 28), he noted that the Ministry of Education (MOE) has taken a careful and measured approach in rolling out this programme. He pointed out that one of the major challenges of full subject-based banding is the availability of resources to cater to the specific needs of each band. He wanted to know how MOE would overcome the challenges when this is rolled out to all secondary schools. Mr Baey also wanted to know if MOE's curriculum review will be extended to post-secondary levels.
