Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 3: Gerald Giam on digitalisation for seniors

02:09 Min

While digitalisation has taken off in a big way in Singapore, this has also left many elderly and less tech-savvy citizens behind, said MP Gerald Giam in Parliament on Tuesday (Feb 28). He said the solution is not to run manual and digital services in parallel forever. Instead, he called for Government agencies to provide in-person assistance to seniors to navigate their digital services. He asked if more ServiceSG centres can be set up in every neighbourhood. He also wanted to know if banks are expected to provide such services for their less digitally savvy customers. Mr Giam also asked how the Government is getting seniors to embrace digital technology while ensuring that they are informed about basic precautions to avoid falling victim to scams.
