Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 3: Hazel Poa on diversity in schools and student-initiated learning
In Parliament on Tuesday (Feb 28), MP Hazel Poa reiterated a call for the Ministry of Education (MOE) to consider piloting a through-train programme for primary and secondary school students, bypassing the Primary School Leaving Examinations. "There should be no sacred cows in education," she said, as the well-being of the child comes first. Ms Poa also urged MOE to consider a range of school sizes and a move towards inclusive learning where neurotypical and neurodivergent children play and study well together. She also said making the Student-Initiated Learning programme compulsory is a contradiction and that students should be able to opt out if it does not work for them.
