Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 3: Low Yen Ling on helping heartland enterprises grow
Heartland enterprises will get more support to grow in two core areas - digitalisation and innovation. A programme called Heartlands Go Digital 3.0 will enable heartland shops to work with new private sector partners and Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) to build capabilities across digital marketing, service excellence and financial management. Businesses will get access to modular temporary spaces in mature heartland precincts to test innovative ideas that can boost their revenue and increase football. This will be piloted in Ang Mo Kio Town Centre, which is envisioned to be a heartland innovation and entrepreneurship town. Heartland shopkeepers and merchants will also be able to learn from successful entrepreneurs and through courses run by IHLs and the Heartland Enterprise Centre. Minister of State for Trade and Industry Low Yen Ling announced these initiatives in Parliament on Tuesday (Feb 28). She also spoke about how the Government will strengthen partnerships with trade associations and chambers to drive business transformation. It will do so in two key areas - digitalisation and sustainability.
