Private education institutions (PEIs) have a vital role to play in Singapore’s success as an education hub, said NMP Mark Chay in Parliament on Tuesday (Feb 28). He said they give Singaporean students the chance to pursue specialised vocational diplomas or degrees from foreign universities without having to leave the country. They can also provide tailored curricula adapted to students’ specific needs. Meanwhile, international students can help expand the global reach of Singapore’s PEI sector. Mr Chay asked the Ministry of Education to share its plans to improve the quality and credibility of PEI education. He also wanted to know how MOE can work with other Government agencies to ensure necessary approvals such as student pass applications and training work pass applications are processed seamlessly.
