Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 3: Tin Pei Ling on partnering industries for the future
Singapore ranks among the top countries for technology infrastructure and adoption and has the highest average Internet connection speed in Asia, said MP Tin Pei Ling in Parliament on Tuesday (Feb 28). With Singapore being on track for nationwide 5G coverage by 2025, Ms Tin asked for an update on the implementation of 5G coverage and if it could be expedited so that Singapore can capture the value created by 5G sooner. On the topic of data protection and data sharing, she asked how data can be made available and shared in a secure environment that allows experiments and product testing without compromising data privacy and security. She also asked if the Government can play a greater role in working with industry players to facilitate this. Citing rapid advancements in technology such as blockchain and cryptography, she wanted to know if there might be scope for more curated Government data to be accessed in a safe, controlled and anonymous manner.
