Good human resource (HR) practices are essential if Singapore wishes to foster a fair and inclusive workplace. One way to do this is to have certified HR professionals in organisations. MP Patrick Tay said this in Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 1). He offered three suggestions, including that companies be mandated to employ at least one HR professional certified by the Institute for Human Resource Professionals before they can hire any foreign manpower. He also said HR cannot be the sole custodians of progressive practices and that people managers should be equipped with the requisite skills and knowledge to better engage and nurture their workforce.
