Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 4: Rachel Ong on workplace and retirement support for PWDs and their caregivers

07:30 Min

People with disabilities as well as caregivers of people with severe disabilities may struggle with lower retirement adequacy, said MP Rachel Ong in Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 1). She asked what is being done to help them. Ms Ong also asked how Singapore can raise the workforce participation rate of working-age people with disabilities. As for caregivers, she noted that they often find it hard to re-enter the workforce after years of caregiving. She called for them to be given more support in job search and coaching, as well as for efforts to reduce possible employer bias and for companies to make available more flexible work arrangements.
