In the war for global talent, Singapore must bring in workers with the right skills and qualifications at the right price, said MP Yip Hon Weng. Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 1), he said it is always a delicate balance between meeting labour needs and protecting citizens' interests. He is concerned that the influx of foreign workers may cause housing rental prices to go up. He wanted to know how the Government plans to balance the housing required for foreigners with the need for affordable properties to rent to Singaporeans. He pointed out that foreigners may also be deterred from working in Singapore due to high rents. He wanted to know how the Government plans to allay these concerns.
