More nursing homes should be built to meet the high demand but these are expensive to construct and operate, said MP Gerald Giam. Speaking in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 2), he said the HDB’s Community Care Apartment (CCA) is a cost-effective alternative for seniors who need assisted living but are not in need of round-the-clock care. He wanted to know what the take-up for CCAs has been so far. He also asked HDB about the projected demand and how many CCAs it plans to build. Mr Giam also supported calls to convert HDB flats into CCAs as seniors would be able to age in place in familiar surroundings.
