Government support and subsidies have kept the public transport system running and kept fares affordable, but the reality is that fare subsidies come from taxes, said MP Lim Biow Chuan in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 2). He sought an update on the public transport fare formula review, which is due this year, so that the public can give its views on how public transport costs should be shared between commuters and taxpayers. He also asked if converting all public buses to electric buses would help to reduce operating costs as there would be substantial savings in fuel.
