Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 5: Louis Chua on 'uneven distribution' of hawker centres

02:01 Min

There is an uneven distribution of hawker centres in Singapore, said MP Louis Chua in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 2). He said statistics show, for example, that Jalan Besar and Tanjong Pagar have a disproportionately higher number of hawker centres while Choa Chua Kang and Sengkang have none, and “there is no real justification” for this. Mr Chua said hawker centres should be built in every town centre. Those directly managed by the National Environment Agency should be central to the planning of new estates and built ahead of demand.
