Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 7: Darryl David on more accessible art spaces and future of Sports Hub
Art spaces will grow in importance in Singapore, especially in an increasingly pluralistic society where pursuits of interest can be very diverse, said MP Darryl David in Parliament on Monday (Mar 6). He asked the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth to share its plans to provide more art spaces for practitioners to experiment with different forms of art and art presentation. He also wanted to know how the ministry intends to inject more vibrancy into the cultural landscape by making art more accessible to Singaporeans. He noted that most art spaces and art presentations today tend to be in the downtown area, with relatively few in the heartlands. Mr David also asked about the future plans of the Sports Hub and how it will feature as part of the Kallang Alive precinct. He wanted to know how the Sports Hub will balance the needs of different communities, such as ensuring it is accessible to Singaporeans for community sports and events while also hosting international sports and entertainment events.
