Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 7: Joan Pereira on Community Dispute Management Framework

01:50 Min

There has been an increase in the number of disputes involving neighbours in recent years, due mainly to noise disruptions, smoking, littering and hoarding. MP Joan Pereira, who said this in Parliament on Monday (Mar 6), noted that the enhanced Community Dispute Management Framework has made mediation mandatory for certain types of cases. She wanted to know how the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) would assist in other types of dispute cases that are not in those categories. These may include cases involving religious practices that might cause racial or religious tensions, or people with mental health or suspected mental health issues. She also asked if MCCY would move faster in processing cases which have not been resolved for a long time.
