Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 7: Mark Chay on Paris 2024, TeamSG Cares, Disability Sports Masterplan and Singapore Sport Hall of Fame

03:42 Min

Singapore is gearing up for the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympic Games, but how does the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) plan to ensure that athletes are well-prepared for qualifying events or other events such as the Southeast Asian Games, ASEAN Para Games, Asian Games, and the Asian Para Games this year? NMP Mark Chay raised this question in Parliament on Monday (Mar 6). With the importance of mental health and resilience in sporting success, he also wanted to know what provisions have been made to ensure that aspiring national athletes have been given adequate emotional and psychological support. Mr Chay also asked how successful the TeamSG Cares initiative has been and what further initiatives MCCY is taking to promote philanthropy within Singapore’s sports culture. He also wanted to know how persons with disabilities and the elderly feature in considerations on the construction of new sports centres and plans to restore existing ones, as well as how coaches and trainers can be better prepared to coach individuals with disabilities. Turning to the Singapore Sport Hall of Fame, he asked if MCCY would consider including coaches and administrators.
