Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 7: Mark Chay on Sports Hub and Sports Facilities Master Plan
The Sports Hub has become more busy and vibrant since the Government took over its management under Kallang Alive Sports Management (KASM) in December 2022, said NMP Mark Chay. In Parliament on Monday (Mar 6), he raised three issues. First, with more events set to be held at the Sports Hub, critical dates need to be identified for national sports training to be protected. This will require more communication among national sports associations (NSAs), SportSG, KASM and event promoters. Second, event organisers should, as far as possible, organise events after office hours or on weekends, so that parents can watch their children compete and perform. This will go a long way towards growing Singapore’s sporting culture, said Mr Chay. Third, KASM can and should do more to promote the ease of use of its facilities and increase outreach to the public. Mr Chay also had questions about the Singapore Sports Facilities Master Plan. He asked which sites will be upgraded, how facilities will be made accessible to the elderly and people with disabilities, and how the facilities will be used by NSAs for training competition during off-peak hours.
