Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 7: Sitoh Yih Pin on Arts and Heritage Plans 2.0 and preserving national monuments
In Parliament on Monday (Mar 6), MP Sitoh Yih Pin asked the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) to provide an update on its refreshed Arts and Heritage Plans 2.0. He asked MCCY to show how public and stakeholder consultations have shaped these plans and expand on its efforts to increase access to various groups in Singapore. He also noted that there are currently 75 buildings and structures in Singapore that have been gazetted as national monuments, and that they preserve not only the history but also represent Singapore’s social compact. Stressing the need to protect and promote the collective heritage as Singapore continues to build on its social compact, he asked MCCY to share more on its plans to safeguard and preserve Singapore’s built heritage, especially its national monuments.
