Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 1: Lim Wee Kiak on decarbonisation and green finance

02:40 Min

As a small island state, Singapore is highly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. How is Singapore keeping pace with emerging decarbonisation pathways? How can Singapore further engage the private sector and philanthropist organisations in supporting the decarbonisation efforts? How will Singapore catalyse green and transition finance, especially within Southeast Asia? MP Lim Wee Kiak raised these questions in Parliament on Wednesday (Feb 28). He asked the Government for an update on the Green Finance Action Plan, and wanted to know how the S$5 billion Future Energy Fund will be used to support the development of essential infrastructure, especially those with a long gestation period such as nuclear energy.
