Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 2: Dennis Tan on US-China relations
In Parliament on Thursday (Feb 29), MP Dennis Tan highlighted the rivalry between Washington and Beijing, as well as other points of friction in East Asia and beyond. Stating that it is in Singapore's interest to work with various partners to encourage better management of tensions before they get worse and more difficult to contain, he wanted to know what are the efforts that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) is taking towards this end. He also wanted to know what the MFA is doing to work with fellow ASEAN members and other partners to reduce this growing risk. In the event that differences among different sides should escalate, he also asked how MFA would propose that Singapore mitigate the elevated risks that may result.
