Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 3: Saktiandi Supaat on plans to enhance the manufacturing sector
The manufacturing sector is a key part of the Singapore 2030 plan, said MP Saktiandi Supaat. Speaking in Parliament on Friday (Mar 1), he pointed out that Singapore’s natural resource constraints, as well as higher land, labour and transport costs make it challenging for global manufacturers. It does not want to draw manufacturing giants, only to lose them five or 10 years later to countries which are cheaper to do business and have caught up in technology and know-how. He asked the Government to share more about its plans to enhance the competitiveness of the manufacturing sector.
