Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 4: Baey Yam Keng on lifelong learning opportunities
Senior Parliamentary Secretary Baey Yam Keng said the newly announced monthly training allowance for mature students will be useful to mitigate the loss of income during their training period. The grant provides up to S$3,000 for up to 24 months. In Parliament on Monday ( Mar 4), he however said some still have significant financial commitments and the allowance may not be enough. He asked if these workers could still take on part-time work during their training to supplement their income. He also asked if there is support available for Singaporeans who want to go further than a second full-time diploma.
