Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 4: Carrie Tan on SkillsFuture Level-Up Programme for the unemployed
In Parliament on Monday (Mar 4), MP Carrie Tan thanked the Ministry of Education (MOE) for launching the SkillsFuture Level-Up scheme and wanted to know what arrangements or provisions will be made regarding the training allowance for Singaporeans who have been unemployed for more than a year. Noting that a significant number of Singaporeans had lost their jobs during the COVID-19 years from 2019 to 2022 and are "struggling to make ends meet through ad-hoc or freelance contracts", she also wanted to know if MOE will consider basing the training allowance on the last drawn full-time income instead of the previous year’s income.
