Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 4: Cheryl Chan on Scope 3, supply chain and SMEs support
While it is difficult to grapple with Scope 3, the position that the Government takes in this respect will be a signal of what the industry should endeavour to achieve, said MP Cheryl Chan. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Mar 4), she said that in Singapore’s next phase of growth, many projects - from public housing and transport infrastructure to connectivity - imply the need for early planning and ability to comply by all parties. She wanted to know what the green procurement criteria will be. Ms Chan also reiterated her call to support small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) on the sustainability journey. She pointed out that apart from costs, SMEs require handholding in their transition towards sustainability. She asked if it is possible to categorise the assessment of SMEs and their needs by the nature of businesses to help them take impactful first steps and draft targeted support measures.
