Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 4: Louis Chua on Lim Chu Kang Masterplan
The creation of a high-tech agri-food production hub in Lim Chu Kang has been touted as a key initiative to support Singapore’s goal of producing 30 per cent of its nutritional needs by 2030 - however, it is not clear how future tenants will balance food security objectives with commercial viability, said MP Louis Chua. In Parliament on Monday (Mar 4), he raised questions such as whether a clustering concept is suitable, whether locals will be attracted to “good jobs” in the area and to what extent “calorific efficiency” will be taken into account in selecting what crops to grow.
