Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 5: Gan Thiam Poh on feasibility of MRT extension and City Direct Services by private bus operators
In Parliament on Tuesday (Mar 5), MP Gan Thiam Poh asked if the Ministry of Transport (MOT) would consider lengthening the Punggol extension of the Cross Island Line to connect to Fernvale, Yio Chu Kang and Lentor stations. He said this will provide more alternatives for commuters to switch to the Thomson-East Coast Line and North-East Line to travel to the west and north in the event of a breakdown or other circumstances. Noting that as more residents move into the new Build-to-Order flats in Fernvale, residents still find that the additional trip implemented by SBS Transit City Direct bus service 671 from Sengkang to the Central Business District is not quite sufficient. He asked if MOT will consider working with private bus operators to provide additional trips during the morning peak hour.
