Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 5: Nadia Ahmad Samdin on facilitating community support for seniors and caregivers

01:46 Min

Efforts to make society more senior- and caregiver-friendly start with revamping and reimagining neighbourhoods and homes, said MP Nadia Ahmad Samdin in Parliament on Tuesday (Mar 5). She asked if public spaces can be better curated to encourage inter-generational support within the community. For example, building common amenities so that more neighbours can be the “eyes and ears” for seniors struggling with dementia or aggravated health conditions, or caregiver burnout. Ms Nadia also asked how services can be co-located closer to seniors and caregivers. On the Age Well SG programme to help seniors live actively and independently in the community, she wanted to know what specific upgrades are envisioned to common spaces and, beyond aesthetic enhancements, how these will improve the daily lives of seniors.
