Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 5: Xie Yao Quan on housing for singles

00:55 Min

The Government should consider co-living facilities in the heartlands to allow young singles to live, work and play together, said MP Xie Yao Quan. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Mar 5), he called for short-term flexible rental for young singles and said the Housing and Development Board (HDB) does not have to do this by itself as there is a vibrant market with commercial players. He said HDB can partner private operators but set standards, including in pricing and affordability, and take the lead in developing the market. Mr Xie added that this will further enhance housing options for singles to meet their diverse needs and aspirations.
