Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 6: Baey Yam Keng on SG Cares and Singapore Government Partnerships Office
It has been two years since SG Cares volunteer centres were set up in all 24 towns in Singapore. Run by community-based organisations, they match needs on the ground with volunteers and resources. Senior Parliamentary Secretary Baey Yam Keng described it as a “great” concept. He asked what impact the centres have had in building a “culture of care”, how they learn from each other, and what efforts will be made to attract more volunteers, including working professionals. In Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 6), Mr Baey also asked about the new Singapore Government Partnerships Office, launched in January for the public to share ideas with Government agencies and make ground-up initiatives a reality. He wanted details on how this will be done, especially for proposals that might cut across agencies and end up falling through the cracks.
