Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 1: He Ting Ru on moving from a linear to circular economy
Does the government have any mechanism to track outsourced carbon from products not made in Singapore? Is reducing these emissions covered under any government strategy like the Zero Waste Masterplan? Are other carbon-intensive sectors like marine and manufacturing subject to scrutiny similar to that of the built environment sector? MP He Ting Ru raised these questions in parliament on Friday (Feb 28). She noted that not only does Singapore need to reduce the resource footprint per unit of GDP, it also needs to continuously reduce its resource footprint altogether. This includes not simply exporting pollution to other countries that Singapore trades with.
