Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 1: Jessica Tan on SMEs' participation in government tenders
In parliament on Friday (Feb 28), MP Jessica Tan stated that Tender Lite was introduced by the Ministry of Finance (MOF) and implemented in April 2024 to make it easier for companies, especially small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to bid for government contracts higher than S$90,000 and not more than S$1 million. Besides wanting to know how many Tender Lite contracts have been awarded to SMEs since its implementation, she asked if MOF would consider measures to enable these companies to participate in projects involving emerging and advanced technology innovations. She also wanted to know what percentage of payments are made on time to suppliers who participate in government tenders, noting that cash flow is critical to SMEs in managing their operational expenses.
