Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 2: He Ting Ru on safe AI
In parliament on Monday (Mar 3), MP He Ting Ru touched on how generative artificial intelligence (AI) through improving deepfake technology can supercharge the effects of online violence against individuals. She also highlighted the increasing acknowledgment that children are more vulnerable to the long-lasting psychological damage caused by harmful deepfakes. She also noted that women are still very much the overwhelming target of deepfakes, particularly those involving sexually explicit images. Ms He added that there is clearly a gendered perspective to harms caused by AI which the government has to be mindful of, and that measures to deal with the problems have to address this.
