Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 2: Sylvia Lim on driving licence renewals for seniors

01:26 Min

Could the age at which drivers are required to submit their medical reports to renew their driving licences be moved to a later age? MP Sylvia Lim raised this question in parliament on Monday (Mar 3). She highlighted the cases of some senior citizens she had encountered who had problems trying to renew their licences after they turned 65 when they had to submit their medical reports. Some could not recall receiving letters from the Traffic Police (TP) on the matter, others had problems using their Singpass to attach their medical reports, or had tried unsuccessfully to seek clarification through emails to the TP, she said. Some are also unaware that driving licences which have lapsed for three years or more can no longer be renewed and the driver would have to retake the relevant competency test.
