Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 3: Dennis Tan on support for low-tech sustainable farming
Low-tech sustainable farming practices can help Singapore build a more resilient agricultural sector that is better prepared for the challenges of climate change. However, low-tech solutions are not necessarily low-cost. Permaculture, for instance, requires substantial investments in research, adaptation and implementation to be effective on a commercial scale. There is currently a gap in support for such practices as grants under Singapore’s "30 by 30" vision predominantly focus on high-tech solutions. MP Dennis Tan made these points in parliament on Tuesday (Mar 4).
