Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 3: Nadia Ahmad Samdin on City in Nature, 100k Corals Programme, and homes for seniors and singles
The Ministry of National Development (MND) announced the vision to transform Singapore into a City in Nature back in 2020. Are there updates on progress made on this front? What are the key initiatives planned for 2025? What is NParks doing to make green and blue spaces more accessible and inclusive for all Singaporeans? MP Nadia Ahmad Samdin raised these questions and more in parliament on Tuesday (Mar 4). She also called for MND to provide more details on the 100k Corals Initiative and asked if there is any target species it is trying to revive through the programme. She also asked how these efforts will contribute to the diversity and vibrancy of Singapore’s marine environment. On Singapore’s evolving demographic, she highlighted the distinct housing needs of seniors and singles in the population. Noting that seniors prefer to age in place, she asked MND for a progress update on the take-up rate of the Enhancement for Active Seniors (EASE) 2.0 programme since its introduction. She also wanted to know what are some learnings from the Single Room Shared Facilities typology and whether the government is looking to expand this.
