Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 4: Lim Biow Chuan on safety of illegally modified PMDs

01:41 Min

In parliament on Wednesday (Mar 5), MP Lim Biow Chuan raised the issue of illegally modified personal mobility devices (PMDs) being used on the roads. He noted that “there are also many irresponsible riders” who use these illegally modified PMDs or e-bikes to race on the roads or ride recklessly, posing a danger to both the rider and other road users. Mr Lim stated that he had also received complaints about PMD users charging their illegally modified PMDs at HDB void decks and bringing them into MRT stations. Noting that these actions pose a fire risk to others, he asked how the Land Transport Authority will ensure the safety of residents living in HDB blocks and the safety of commuters using the trains. He also wanted to know if action will be taken against retailers who sell illegally modified PMDs or help to modify PMDs illegally.
