Existing solutions to spur local hiring appear to be targeting only the symptoms, but the reason favouring the hiring of foreign talent is that without CPF contributions, foreign talents are often just cheaper, said MP Jamus Lim. Speaking in parliament on Thursday (Mar 6), he suggested setting aside CPF equivalent payouts into individual specific accounts which will be returned to the foreign workers when they leave. This would go a long way towards rebalancing the perceived wage differential between the foreign and local workforce, he said.
