Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 5: Shawn Huang on maximising students’ potential through sports

08:42 Min

Students experience diverse sports during Physical Education (PE) lessons and can hone their interest and talent through co-curricular activities (CCAs). However, a lack of critical mass may constrain efforts by schools to provide a wide range of CCA options, said Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Education Shawn Huang. A programme to give students more choice was piloted in 2019 to offer centralised, non-school-based CCAs. It started with athletics and water polo and will now be expanded to include canoeing this year and hockey in 2026. In parliament on Thursday (Mar 6), Mr Huang also spoke about how schools work with parents to support students’ mental well-being.
