Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 6: Rahayu Mahzam on improving proficiency in generative AI

16:02 Min

Two in three Singaporeans have basic digital skills, but all must also learn new technologies - such as generative AI - to prepare for the digital future. Minister of State for Digital Development and Information Rahayu Mahzam said this in parliament on Friday (Mar 7). The increasing use of GenAI can feel “alien and scary”, she said, and must be demystified. The Digital Skills for Life (DSL) framework will therefore be updated with content on GenAI to explain the basics, applications for daily activities and how to manage risks. People who are interested can learn through workshops or at their own pace using resources on the DSL portal. Public libraries will also roll out showcases that allow visitors to experience uses of GenAI. Meanwhile, the government is doing more to ensure its digital services are user-friendly and inclusive, said Ms Rahayu. To drive this effort on a wider scale, a workgroup involving the public, private and people sectors will be launched.
