Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 1: Lee Hui Ying on support for senior youths

01:46 Min

The government should consider a flexi-care leave scheme for senior youths who are burdened with adulting responsibilities. This would give them the assurance and flexibility to respond to caregiving needs across different life stages, without having to choose between their jobs and families. MP Lee Hui Ying made this call in parliament on Thursday (Feb 26), saying the leave can be used to accompany parents to medical appointments, care for a child who is unwell, attend to urgent caregiving needs, or simply to recharge with “no questions asked”. This is not just a matter of compassion but of workforce sustainability, she said.
