Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 2: Christopher de Souza on threat landscape, drug trafficking and rehabilitation

10:06 Min

Singapore is deeply plugged into a globalised world economy and it cannot afford to be naive about attempts by foreign actors to influence domestic political discourse, said MP Christopher de Souza. Speaking in parliament on Friday (Feb 27), he said Singapore must continue to send a clear signal that its politics is for Singaporeans to lead, manage and control. Turning to Singapore’s drug policy, Mr de Souza noted that there is nothing contradictory about taking a hard, uncompromising position against traffickers while adopting a more rehabilitative approach towards addicts. “These two approaches are complementary, not inconsistent,” he said, calling for “political ambidexterity” in legislative work.
