Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 2: Edwin Tong on strong and decisive action to protect and unite Singaporeans
Singapore is stepping up outreach efforts to inoculate youths against extremist ideologies and sensitise the public to the telltale signs of radicalisation. These include activities at SGSecure roadshows and other touchpoints, as well as digital engagement. Second Minister for Home Affairs Edwin Tong announced these initiatives as part of efforts by the Home Team to take strong and decisive action to protect and unite Singaporeans. Next week, the government will launch a refreshed SGSecure campaign and roadshows that focus on what Singaporeans can do before, during and after a terrorist attack. Turning to safeguards against foreign interference, Mr Tong told parliament on Friday (Feb 27) that the government will be designating race-based entities that are assessed to have higher potential of being vectors for malicious foreign interference. It will also propose to be allowed to issue anticipatory directions against mediums of online communications if there are signs they will be used to mount a hostile information campaign.
