Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 2: Kenneth Tiong on DIS cyber talent and private sector path and second-year NSF allowance
Singapore has programmes to train soldiers to become cyber defenders, but it does not seem to have a dedicated pathway for cyber professionals to become soldiers, said MP Kenneth Tiong. Speaking in parliament on Friday (Feb 27), he wanted to know if the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) would consider a cyber direct entry pathway for the Digital and Intelligence Service (DIS) and allow mid-career industry professionals to serve in military cyber defence. He also wanted to know if MINDEF could adjust the second-year full-time National Serviceman (NSF) allowance to the local qualifying salary of S$1,800.
